Do you suffer from migraines? It’s believed that 12% of the population suffer from migraines in some shape or form. Unlike regular headaches, migraines tend to be more debilitating, often causing nausea, dizziness and sensitivity to light. They can be a recurring problem caused by certain triggers. These triggers can vary depending on the person and sometimes aren’t always clear.
Migraines may go away eventually on their own, but most people want them to be over as soon as possible. Fortunately, there are lots of possible ways in which you can beat a migraine. Here are just ten migraine-fighting tactics to try.
Dim the Lights
Bright light can often make a migraine worse. Lying down in a dark room for a while could help your migraine to go away. If you’re not able to do this, you can always try wearing shades. If you need to do work on a computer and you have a migraine, you could also try dimming the brightness, providing this doesn’t cause you to strain your eyes.
Drink Some Coffee
For many people, drinking coffee can be a way to cure a migraine, so long as you catch it early. In the early stages of a migraine, the blood vessels enlarge. Caffeine causes the blood vessels to constrict, which can help to stop a migraine in its tracks. Coffee isn’t always the solution to a migraine and can sometimes be a direct cause – the caffeine comedown sometimes causes migraines in people, in which case it’s best to avoid caffeinated drinks altogether.
Let Your Hair Down
Any pressure on the scalp is likely to make a migraine worse. If you’ve got your hair tied or pinned up, consider letting it down to ease the tension on your head. This itself won’t cure a migraine but it could help.
