Wouldn't it be amazing to just know what you want and go after it?! I think we all wish we had that kind of drive in our hearts. Too many of us have blockers in the way; family, friends, money, doubt, fear. But, what if you could push past all that and just simply fall in love with life?

Andrea did it.

Are you ready to hear her story?!

At what moment did you know you wanted to start your own business?

I've always wanted to be my own boss. I’ve never been a person that like the 9 to 5 jobs, the grumpy boss or anything like that. About three years ago, I saw on social media a lot of nomads traveling the world and with their laptops, and I said to myself, “Wow, these people are doing what I desire. I want to do that; I want to live that life.” And almost two years ago I lost my only source of income working as a graphic designer and social media manager for a restaurant. I immediately started looking for some design jobs, designing flyers, logos, business cards, you name it. I started looking for freelance jobs on sites like Upwork, and even searching on Facebook. I made a few bucks now and then, but it wasn’t enough. So I started a company doing Graphic Design and Social Media Management: Enhanced Designs & Marketing. I shared this with friends on social media and also with people in person. I gained the mindset and attitude of a business woman. And I immediately started making more money out of my business.

Do you employ or outsource any of the work for your business or are you a one-woman-show? How does this decision affect your daily life?

I'm a one-woman show! Since I do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, sometimes it can get a little stressed since I have to many things to do. This isn’t my only business and I also have a family that I need to spend the most time with. So, if you’re planning on doing the same, doing it all, be sure that you can deal with the daily stress and practice meditation, yoga and/or exercise. Be ready for a lot of work and hustle. But always remember that you can do this. The Universe (God) would never give you something you can’t handle! So keep your head up and don’t let that crown of yours fall!

Would you recommend having a mentor vs starting a business on your own?

Having a mentor is a great thing to do, really. However, starting your business on your own or with the help of others depends completely on your knowledge, mindset and connections. If you feel that you may need help, then go get it. But if you think you can do it all by yourself, go ahead! I didn’t start my business with a mentor, but now I have one! She’s a great, wonderful and funny person that has helped me grow more. We schedule weekly or bi-weekly meetings and she helps me with anything that I need and gives me suggestions, tips, etc.

Were you always supported by friends and family?

I was never supported by anyone except my husband. He's been the only one that has given me support, and has helped me continue in this amazing journey of having my own business. Never stop working for what you want, even if you don’t have support from your family and/or friends. Remember that they are not you, you have different dreams, and what they say isn’t always good, positive or even correct.

Describe one failure you had during the startup process.

Enhanced Designs & Marketing has been up for a couple of years now and I have never had any problem or have failed a customer ever.

Do you have any regrets from starting this business?
